On May 8, 2013, Levi Strauss & Co., a San Francisco-based company, acquired the stadium's naming rights. Under the contract, the company will pay the city of Santa Clara and the 49ers $220.3 million over 20 years. Levi Strauss also has an option to extend the agreement for an additional five years for an additional $75 million.
Levi's Stadium opened on July 17, 2014. The arena's first sporting event was an MLS match on August 2, 2014. In this game, the San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Seattle Sounders 1-0 thanks to a goal by Yannick Djallo.
The stadium has also hosted wrestling events, including WWE's WrestleMania 31 on March 29, 2015. The arena has also hosted matches of the National Hockey League's Stadium Series and college football competitions. Significant events have also included football matches of the 2016 Copa AmΓ©rica.
