Australia national football team

The Australian national football team represents their country in world-class competitions. Its activities are governed and coordinated by Football Federation Australia. Since 2006, the Australian team, previously part of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), has become part of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Southeast Asian Football Federation.

The Australian team has achieved significant success on the international stage: it has won the Oceania Championship four times, winning the OFC Nations Cup, and also won the AFC Asian Cup in 2015. This makes it the only team in the world to have won championships from two different confederations. Australia's first appearance at the World Cup came in 1974, representing Oceania. In subsequent years, the team has qualified only once—in 2006. It was then that Australia came under the AFC umbrella, as its level of play significantly surpassed that of other teams in the Pacific region.

The national team also participated in the 2010 and 2018 FIFA World Cups and successfully qualified for the 2014 tournament. Their highest achievement was reaching the round of 16 at the 2006 and 2022 World Cups. The team has participated in the Confederations Cup three times.

As of April 3, 2025, the Australian national team is ranked 26th in the FIFA rankings.
