The Belgium national football team has represented the country internationally since 1904. Since 1906, it has been nicknamed the "Red Devils," and its fan club is known as "1895." The team is governed by the Royal Belgian Football Association. It is one of the oldest teams in Europe, having competed in numerous competitions in the early 20th century. Three periods of success stand out in the history of the Belgian national team: from 1920 to 1938, from 1980 to 2002, and from 2014 to 2020. The Belgians' greatest achievement was winning bronze at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Since 2015, the team has topped the FIFA rankings several times.
As of December 19, 2024, the team ranks eighth in the FIFA rankings. In November 2015, Belgium topped the rankings for the first time, becoming the only team to hold the top spot without winning either a world or continental championship.
