Celine Dion is a Canadian singer, composer, songwriter, and actress, originally from a large family in Quebec.
Dion gained international recognition in the 1980s. In 1982, she placed third at the Yamaha Music Festival in Tokyo, and in 1988, she won the Eurovision Song Contest representing Switzerland. In the 1990s, after signing with Epic Records and releasing several English-language albums along with new French releases, Celine Dion achieved worldwide fame and became one of the most successful pop artists.
In 1999, at the height of her success, Dion decided to take a break from her career to devote time to her family and support her husband during his battle with cancer. She returned to the stage in 2002.
Celine Dion's musical style spans a variety of genres, from rock and R&B to gospel and classical music. She is currently the best-selling Canadian artist and the second-highest-selling female artist in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In the UK, she is the only artist to sell more than one million copies of her singles twice.
In 2004, Celine was awarded a Diamond Award at the World Music Awards for selling over 175 million albums worldwide, making her the most successful female artist of all time. In 2017, Forbes ranked her the fourth-highest-paid female artist in the world.
