Ecuador national football team

On the international stage, Ecuador's national team, governed by the Ecuadorian Football Federation, defends its football honors. For a long time, this team, like Venezuela's, was considered one of the least successful in South America. However, in recent decades, this situation has begun to change, and the Ecuadorians have achieved significant success, qualifying for four World Cups. They participated in the 2002 tournaments in Japan and South Korea, the 2006 tournament in Germany, the 2014 tournament in Brazil, and the 2022 tournament in Qatar. At the 2006 World Cup, the team advanced from its group stage and reached the round of 16, where they lost to England. It was then that the Ecuadorian team became the last team to concede a goal from David Beckham in the tournament. In April 2013, the Ecuadorians reached an all-time high, reaching 10th place in the FIFA rankings.

As of July 18, 2024, the Ecuadorian national team is ranked 27th in the FIFA World Rankings.
