Egypt is represented in international football by its national team, managed by the Egyptian Football Association.
The team is ranked 31st in the FIFA World Cup rankings.
Although Egypt has yet to win a World Cup, it remains one of the most successful teams in Africa at the continental level. The Egyptian national team has won the African Cup of Nations seven times, winning in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010. They are the only team to have won this trophy three times in a row. However, after their triumphs in the continent's premier tournament, Egypt failed to qualify for the finals three timesโin 2012, 2013, and 2015. In the 2012 qualifying round, they finished last in a group with Niger, South Africa, and Sierra Leone. The following year, the Egyptian team unexpectedly lost in the first round to the Central African Republic, their first home defeat since 1965. In the 2015 qualifying round, Egypt again failed to advance from the group, losing four of their six matches.
