The Panama national football team represents the country internationally, participating in various matches and tournaments. The team is organized and managed by the Panamanian Football Federation. The team played its first international match on July 28, 1937, against Jalisco (Mexico) in Santiago de Cali, Colombia. The Panama national team plays its home matches at the Rommel Fernández Stadium, located in the Irving Saladino Sports Complex in the capital and seating 32,000 spectators.
Panama first participated in the World Cup in 2018. The team has reached the CONCACAF Gold Cup final twice: in 2005 and 2013, but lost both times to the hosts, the United States. Panama won the Central American Cup in 2009 and finished second in 2007 and 2017. The team also won the 1951 CCCF Championship.
One of the team's most significant achievements was a 2-1 victory over Costa Rica in October 2017 during the World Cup qualifying round, which secured Panama's participation in the World Cup in Russia. In their debut at the tournament, the team was drawn into Group G, where they finished last after matches against Belgium, England, and Tunisia.
