Paraguay national football team

The Paraguayan national football team represents the country internationally, participating in tournaments and friendly matches. Its activities are coordinated by the Paraguayan Football Association.

As of April 3, 2025, the team is ranked 48th in the FIFA rankings.

At the 2010 World Cup, Paraguay advanced from the group stage for the fourth time in its history, reaching the round of 16. In their group, Paraguay played against reigning world champions Italy, New Zealand, and Slovakia, which was participating in the competition for the first time. Paraguay drew with Italy and New Zealand and defeated Slovakia, securing first place in the group. In the round of 16, they faced Japan and won on penalties. However, in the quarterfinals, they faced Spain. The match was extremely tense, and Paraguay lost 0-1. Oscar Cardoso missed a penalty in the 59th minute, which proved to be one of the key moments of the game.
