South African national football team

The South African national football team represents the country on the international football stage. Following the imposition of the apartheid regime, South Africa was excluded from the African Cup of Nations and only returned in 1994. Just two years later, in 1996, the South African team won gold in this prestigious tournament, then silver in 1998, and third place in 2000. The team also participated in the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups. In 2010, South Africa became the first African country to host the FIFA World Cup.
